IT’S bad to use sovereignty as an excuse and hide away from certain realities, but people do not eat sovereignty.
Zimbabwe needs to undergo Highly Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC) surgery given the fact that its key resource-generating sectors are in the doldrums –– with no viable industry and no serous agricultural production. Even without sanctions those countries that did undergo HIPC surgery improved and still have their sovereignty. It is sheer day dreaming for us to continue thinking that we can do some financial miracles to recuperate from the current economic quagmire without HIPC surgery. I think it is true that all options were tried before we adopted a GNU and multi-currency system.
