BRIDGES-FOR MICE!COUNCIL bosses in South Wales have been slammed for spending £190 000 on building bridges — for dormice.

The mice will be protected from nearby predators and will be kept safe from traffic on the Church Village bypass, which opens next month after a 20-year wait. The three bridges will help them move between habitats either side of the newly-built £90 milliion stretch of road between Pontypridd and Talbot Green.Local resident Nichola Thomas, 34, said: “There are more pressing issues that the council could be spending money on. I find it absurd that they have spent such an obscene amount of cash on this bridge.”Bethan Rees, 30, agreed and added: “It’s an eyesore and it’s ludicrous. If it was a bridge for us, I’d still call it a waste of money in this current financial climate.”But Byron Bowden, 27, said; “I think it’s great that the council are protecting the local wildlife — it’s something we are proud of here and something authorities are usually dismissive about.” — Reuters.

NAKED BURGLARSPOLICE had an easy job identifying a naked couple who broke into a house and filmed themselves having sex — because they left the camera behind. The man and woman were caught having sex on camera at a home in Elma, Washington state, when someone arrived to collect the mail while the homeowner was away. The naked couple fled, but left behind their camera — which enabled Gray Harbor police to identify the two suspects, reports the Seattle Daily Weekly.“We’re not sure what the motivation for the break-in was but it’s a fair bet to say narcotics may have been involved,” an officer told the Seattle Daily Weekly. The 39-year-old woman was arrested later that evening. A warrant has also been issued for the 31-year-old man.And both may face more charges, since the camcorder that was their undoing was also found to be stolen during a separate break-in.—Orange news.

FANTASTIC  TOILETA TOILET that belonged to the late Beatle John Lennon fetched $14 740 at an auction on Saturday, around 10 times its estimate, the sale organisers said.Lennon, who was murdered in New York in 1980, had the porcelain lavatory removed from Tittenhurst Park in Berkshire, southern England, where he lived from 1969 to 1971, and replaced with a new one.The builders who took away the white and blue lavatory were told to “put some flowers in it or something,” according to the auction catalog.Builder John Hancock stored it in his shed for 40 years until he died recently and the lavatory was sent for sale, British media reports said. The toilet was among Beatles’ memorabilia sold at an auction as part of the Beatle week festival in Liverpool, the group’s native city in northwest England. — Reuters.
