BY ALBERT MARUFU ZIMBABWE’S representatives in the African Champions League, Motor Action  boycotted training on Friday over unpaid allowances and bonuses.

The players, who are owed thousands of dollars from last season, also threatened to boycott their opening Champions League encounter next weekend.

The Zimbabwean champions are set to open their maiden African Safari campaign with a clash against Madagascar’s Cnaps Sport in the preliminary round.

According to one senior player who preferred anonymity, the players were expecting to receive their monies at the club’s awards ceremony held on Thursday at Motor Action Sports Club.

“We were supposed to receive US$100 in winning bonuses for each game but we ended up getting half of the amount last season. We were expecting the remainder of the money this year. This is the reason why the club lost a number of influential players from last season,” he said.

The player added that they were expecting to receive the money at the club’s awards ceremony held at Motor Action Sports Club, but did not receive anything.“We were quite all along as we thought that we would receive the money at the awards ceremony, but the management was mum on the issue.  This is why we have resorted to such an action,” said one player.
