Propaganda will not save Zanu PF

Comment & Analysis
I laughed when I read in The Herald recently that Zanu PF Harare Province chairman  Amos Midzi had said his party was committed to guaranteeing peace and safety for all Zimbabweans regardless of political affiliation. What a lot of lies!

Even Midzi himself, deep down in his heart, must have known  he was not telling the truth. Zanu PF and its leader Robert  Mugabe will never accept anyone who thinks outside their framework of reasoning. Anyone who opposes their thinking is branded a traitor who wants to reverse the gains of the  liberation struggle and return the country to white oppressors. What wayward thinking is this?

The people in that party know that their backs are against the wall. What with the looting of the country’s resources, crumbling economy, mounting poverty and an increasingly restless population that we had become when everything was under their control.

History has taught us that Zanu PF  and its leaders do  not accept that there is anyone from any other political party better suited to rule this country  other  than them. This country has a cornucopia of geniuses from every profession who can serve this country from the mess we were plunged in during the ruthless rule of Mugabe and his cronies.

These professionals have been denied the chance to serve  this country by people holding the country at ransom because they claim to have liberated it. Liberation! — What liberation can we talk of when we are even worse off than where we were during the colonial era?

Everyday we are bombarded with hate propaganda, with Zanu PF engaged in a mission of mass delusion through its captive  media. The party lost it’s popularity more than 10 years ago and is hanging on to power through vote-rigging and intimidation. They are trying to win the hearts of the people through propaganda. History is being distorted to portray them as the real heroes. We are being forced to swallow the propaganda that  the country is where it is today because of sanctions. But people are not so stupid as to be misled by such cheap lies. The revolutionary upheavals   that are taking place in north Africa will soon be here.  People cannot  be suppressed forever. The winds of change will sweep through Zimbabwe  and  the people of this country shall be “Free at Last”.
