BY NQOBANI NDLOVU BULAWAYO — Liberation war heroine Thenjiwe Lesabe (pictured above), who died on Friday afternoon, will be buried at her Fort Rixon farm on the outskirts of Bulawayo even if she is declared a national hero, her party Zapu said yesterday.

Lesabe, a former cabinet minister and chairperson of Zanu PF’s Women’s League, died at the intensive care unit of the United Bulawayo Hospital (UBH) where she had been admitted due to an undisclosed illness.

At the time of her death she was chairperson of the Zapu Council of Elders after she ditched Zanu PF in 2009 to join the party now led by Dumiso Dabengwa. She was 76.

Zapu spokesperson, Methuseli Moyo said Lesabe had indicated that she did not wish to be buried at the Heroes Acre.
