BY BRIAN NKIWANE TELECOMMUNICATIONS company NetOne has donated the proceeds from the NetOne Charity Shield to eight charitable organisations.

The match, which pitted Dynamos and Motor Action, netted US$16 000.

The eight charitable organisations got US$2 000 each which they said would go a long way in developing their organisations.

Speaking at the handover ceremony on Friday, NetOne managing director Reward Kangai said they managed to identify the eight charitable organisation through their social responsibility programme dubbed “Touch a Child’s Heart”.

The organisations are Jairos Jiri Centre, Just for Children Foundation, Jehovah Shalomi Children’s Home and Manhinga Village from Rusape, Ekhaya Kip Keino from Gwanda, Mother of Peace Children’s Home in Mutoko, Alpha Cottages in Masvingo and Maryward Children’s Home in Gweru.

Kangai added that they were giving out the money to enable these organisations to start developmental projects that would sustain them.

“We are not giving you the money to buy other things, no, we are giving you the money to start income generating projects that will enable you to make money,” Kangai said.

He also revealed that they had since signed a three-year contract with the Premier Soccer League, which would see them sponsoring the Charity Shield Cup for the next three years, and the contract is subject to renewal.
