African Tribe land a slot at Intwasa Festival

BY KHULANI NKABINDE Youthful seven-member afro-jazz outfit, African Tribe will feature in this year’s edition of the Intwasa Arts Festival. Group member, Fiola Malambo said participation at the arts showcase had been confirmed.

“Yes we will perform on September 21 at the Chibuku Stage located at the City Hall car park,” said Malambo. She said the group would perform most of their hit songs such Simile and Upenyu Wanhasi.

The group is not new in the music industry. They have staged performances at various fora and have also taken part in national music competitions.Last year they performed at the Music Crossroads competition in Harare as well as the Road to Fame competition where they came second after Club Shanga.

Malambo said the group was now staging shows mainly in Gweru. The group’s music appeals to a diverse audience as they sing in both Shona and Ndebele.Intwasa Arts Festival director, Raisedon Baya also confirmed that the group would perform.

“Yes, they will be one of the acts at the festival,” said Baya adding that preparations for the event had reached an advanced stage. “All is set for the showcase,” he said.

This year, there will be 65 acts at the week-long festival that begins on September 19.
