Standard journalist wins award

BY OUR STAFF CHIPO Masara, a proofreader with The Standard is the winner of Rainbow Tourism Group’s environment award for the first quarter of this year. Masara was honoured for her story titled “Smoking Ruins the Environment”, which was published in The Standard issue February 27.

In the story, Masara outlined the dangers of smoking which include veld fires. The story is part of many she has written  in her environment column since 2010.

She walked away with a cash prize, a trophy, a certificate and two nights’ accommodation for two at an RTG lodge in Hwange. Patrice Makova who works for The Mail newspaper won the award for the second quarter.

His winning story, on conservation and climate change, was published in the newspaper which is no longer publishing.
