CPA denies homosexuality led to split

Comment & Analysis
The Church of the Province of Central Africa (CPA) has once again dismissed claims that the split in the Harare Diocese was caused by its tolerance for homosexuality. Ex-communicated Harare bishop Nolbert Kunonga claims that he pulled out of the CPA because the church supported same-sex relationships.

Kunonga’s move has led to an acrimonious fight over properties characterised by evictions and arrests of several priests aligned to the new Harare bishop Chad Gandiya.“The CPA does not really understand how Kunonga and his followers got to know of the existence of homosexuality within its ranks,” the CPA said in a statement on Friday.

“Because truthfully, during his time as the Anglican Diocese of Harare (CPA) bishop, he never spoke so passionately about this subject, which he now claims exist with Zimbabwe’s Anglicans.” — BY OUR STAFF
