Mugabe off to Singapore again

Comment & Analysis
PRESIDENT Robert Mugabe on Friday flew to China and will pass through Singapore, authoritative sources said. It would be Mugabe’s ninth trip to the Asian country this year alone as speculation on his deteriorating health mounts.

The Standard could not ascertain when the ageing leader will come back or whether he had other business other than his usual medical check-up. Minister of Media, Information and Publicity, Webster Shamu declined to comment while Presidential spokesperson George Charamba’s mobile phone was not reachable.

“You know I don’t comment over the phone,” said Shamu. Charamba earlier this year said Mugabe had visited Singapore for a routine cataract operation. Mugabe has dismissed speculation over his health each time he is asked about the issue.
