Dancers divide Chimbetu family

Standard People
By Silence CharumbiraTryson Chimbetu has come under fire from some family members after accepting dancers that deserted his cousin Sulumani.Tryson is alleged to have employed the dancers a few weeks after they rebelled against Sulumani by refusing to get onto the stage alleging that they had not been paid.

Allan Chimbetu, who is uncle to Sulumani and Tryson, told the Standardlife&style last week that the move had disappointed him.He said Tryson should have considered the connotations of his actions before employing the dancers.

“I am disappointed at his actions. He should have consulted either me or Sulu his brother about the problems that had made the dancers leave in the first instance,” said Allan.

“Now it looks as if there are divisions in the family which is not correct. What the dancers did to Sulu’s band, they can also do to him,” said Allan.

Tryson however justified his actions in a local daily saying there was nothing wrong with his actions. He said he had nothing against Sulumani but he simply seized a chance to beef up his band.

Speaking in a separate interview Sulumani said he loves his cousin but was shocked by the move. “I am shocked at the developments. I have always had problems with those guys.

“Sometimes they came for shows late while in some instances they totally absconded but we always sorted our problems by sitting down as a family.

“This time however, they have shut the door on themselves,” said Sulumani. The Orchestra Dendera Kings front man said he suspected Tryson could be on a revenge mission.

He said he had earlier employed a dancer that had defected from Tryson. “The dancer had attended my shows pestering me for a job for a long time.

“I tried to engage Tryson so as to talk to him about it but he refused and I ended up employing him. “I think Tryson was not happy about it. I never thought there would be a rift because I had tried to table the issue.”

Tryson refuted the claims that he has employed the rebel dancers. He said he is still in the initial stages of debating the issue and was shocked to hear that the dancers have confirmed they are now part of his band.

“Issues to do with bands are very sensitive and we should be skeptical about the whole story. “I am happy with my band before them but naturally as this is the beginning of another year, I will be changing one or two things within the structures of my band,” said Tryson.

The young musician poured water on all the allegations maintaining that he has done nothing wrong and is not out to “fix” his cousin.
