US outfit Boyz II Men heads for Harare

BY SIMBARASHE MANHANGO.American award-winning R‘n’B male outfit and one of the most successful groups of all time, Boys II Men is slated to perform at the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC) on March 31.  

Having sold more than 60 million album copies worldwide, Boyz II Men is popularly known for emotional ballads and acappella harmonies.

 

The group will perform in Zimbabwe courtesy of Freecomad in partnership with Convex Services, an events management company which last year brought in South African multi-award-winning songstress, Lira, for a once-off performance.

In an interview with Stan-dardLife&Style, Freedom Mazariri, managing director of Freecomad said, “Everything is in check and Boyz II Men will be coming into the country for one concert at the Harare Intentional Conference Centre.

“We are expecting this concert to be an event which will also see some of our local artists engage into collaborative duets with this high-profile outfit.”

The Cool Crooners from Bulawayo are also set to be part of the local artists set to perform at this concert. Cool Crooners celebrate jazz and mbaqanga through perfect harmony.

Formed at Philadelphia High School for Creative and Performing Arts in 1988 in the United States, Boyz II Men rose to fame when they first signed with Motown Records as a quartet in 1990 leading to the release of their first single, End of the Road, a phenomenal song which became an instant hit and topped the pop charts in the world.

The song End of the Road set a new record for longevity, staying at number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for 13 weeks and broke a decades –old record held by Elvis Presley one of the most popular American singers of the 20th century.

Boyz II Men even exceeded that record later in the decade with hits I’ll Make Love to You, One Sweet Day a duet with Mariah Carey and the popular hit song, A Song for Mama.

Currently composed of Nathan Morris, Wanya Morris, and Shawn Stockman, the group won four Grammy Awards in the 1990s and the trio was also nominated for two Grammys in 2009.

Numerous achievements that this group has achieved saw them being recognized as one of the most successful musical group to emerge in the 1990s.

Boyz II Men has been touring the world recently and have performed with top artists such as Justin Bieber and Beyonce among others.
