State must set good example

FAILURE or refusal by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe to pay the full retrenchment packages to the workers it laid off may be setting a bad precedent for the rest of commerce and industry.

This is the same as the government refusing to review the salaries of its employees — this has had the effect of encouraging the private sector to plead lack of funds when faced with demands of salary reviews. We expect state institutions to set the example on such matters.
