DeMbare to unleash new players

By Brian NkiwaneHARARE giants DeMbare will be ready to unleash their new acquisitions when they take on Hwange in the semi-finals of the Bob 88 Super Cup at Barbourfields this afternoon.

The Glamour Boys have been on the transfer market bringing in a couple of players in their books with others coming from as far as Zambia.The tournament got underway yesterday at Sakubva in Mutare where Motor Action took on FC Platinum.

DeMbare fans will be looking forward to seeing their new signings, striker Tineyi Chitora and Zambian import Derrick Kabwe in action  for the first time.Chitora has already made a name for himself as he scored a memorable brace for the Glamour Boys against Quelaton in a friendly match in Gweru last week. It remains to be seen whether Chitora and Rodrick Mutuma are going to form a strong partnership upfront for the Glamour Boys who will be missing the guidance of Cuthbert Malajila who joined South African premiership side Maritzburg United recently.

Chipangano are fresh from a South Africa Premiership excursion where they lost 0-1 to ABSA premiership champions Orlando Pirates at the Rand Stadium before holding Platinum Stars to goalless draw in Rustenburg last week.

Technical manager Tennant Chilumba was happy with the boys’ performance across the border.

The coalminers opened their cheque book and acquired former Mwana Africa, Monomotapa and Blue Ribbon midfielder Daniel Kamunhenga, ex-Zimbabwe Saints player Evans Rusike and Tawanda Mareya, who was at Shabanie Mine.  Farai Vimisayi, who was on loan to DeMbare, is also back with the coalminers.

DeMbare will be using the tournament to prepare for their CAF Champions League dance while Hwange will be fine-tuning their squad for their CAF Confederation Cup tie against Jamhuri of Tanzania in the preliminary round on the weekend of February 17-19.

The final of the Bob 88 Super Cup will be at Rufaro on February 26 with the losing semi-finalists expected to take part in a third and fourth place playoff which will act as a curtain-raiser for the final match.

Dynamos upstaged city rivals CAPS United 3-2 in the inaugural edition of the tournament last year.
