Grooming:Ladies’ wardrobe choices through the male lenses lll

Standard People
Due to limited space in last week’s edition my article has become a three-part series. In my previous article I wrote about some of the style trends that men think are worth following while they think some of them belong on the runway and not on the streets.

HEELS or FLATSMen voted yes to heels. Not that I blame them. I like my legs in heels because my calf muscles are tensed and look more toned. My bum also feels perkier because the gluteal muscles are tensed. Wearing heels is a worthwhile workout.

Heels also give one an added confidence boost. This is not to say that flats are out but heels just speak volumes.

Flats are not flattering to the legs and when most women walk in flats they do not carry themselves elegantly and tend to plod instead of glide, primarily because they are so comfortable and there is no effort required when walking in them.

However, men do appreciate pretty flats worn appropriately. In comparison to the woman in heels whose posture automatically changes accordingly. In order for heels to work their magic, a lady needs to learn how to walk in them, properly. Practise at home if you need to. Bending your knees is a definite no-no.

THEIR FAVOURITE LOOKThis one was a shocker to me. Men love it when we dress up and go all out in our Little Black Dresses, stilettos, fancy hairdos and flawless make-up. However, the magazine poll revealed that their favourite look is blue jeans and a white t-shirt. Who knew it was something so basic. Makes you wonder why we bother putting lots of effort into our outfits when we know we are going to see them when we could just reach for jeans and a white t-shirt and still knock the socks off them.

I can testify to this, the compliments I receive when I am all dolled up are superseded by the ones I receive when I am looking casual and comfortable (by this I do not mean my “I am just chilling at home” clothes) but a denim dress or shorts and a shirt. I tried to figure out why it was so and the only thing that I could think of was that when you are dolled and wearing that hot dress, you know that you are looking good because you have put in all that effort to look good.

When you are dressed casually however, you are not relying on your outfit or make-up but on yourself and your inner beauty. So in essence the real you shines through and makes you look more beautiful than ever.

The bottom line is that men appreciate women that are dressed well, that is women that know how to choose clothes that are flattering to their figures and bring out the best in them. They are not looking to see how trendy you are they just care that it looks good on you.

That is how we are supposed to pick our outfits anyway, based on what looks good on us, not what looks good on others on the runway, on television or in a magazine. For instance, jumpsuits are trendy but if you are short, they may make you look shorter. If you are curvy or round they may make you look curvier or wider. Then again, when it comes to some trends we should just agree to disagree.
