Pirating music lands businessman in trouble

BINGA — A 61-year-old businessman from Secondary area here, has been slapped with a three months jail-term for selling pirated music discs at his hardware shop.Gandawa Greatman, a prominent businessman in Binga, pleaded guilty to dealing with pirated discs when he appeared before Binga resident magistrate, Stephen Ndlovu.

The magistrate convicted and sentenced him to three months in jail with an option of paying a US$50 fine. The court heard that on April 23 this year, police detectives on patrol found one Tariro Masikinye, who is employed by Greatman, at Quality Hardware.

Masikinye was selling six copies of the pirated discs. Police arrested her and she revealed that her employer was supplying the discs, leading to Greatman’s arrest.David Never Shiku prosecuted.
