The team must shoulder blame

While I am disappointed by the Warriors’ failure to get a victory against Mozambique in a World Cup Group G soccer qualifier at the Estadio do Zimpeto, I would like to take issue with coach Rahman Gumbo for singling out one player as a disgrace.

In a game of soccer 11 players must complement each other to get positive results and if the team fails in its mission, then all of them are to blame.

In all situations where a certain player fails to play well, he is substituted and another player with fresh legs comes in and the coach responds to the substitution of a player by shaking hands with the substituted one, a good-will sign.

For Gumbo to verbally attack Karuru by saying that “Ovidy let himself and his teammates down with a big miss”, and even going further to say if he had been one of his teammates he would “probably have killed him”, are such harsh words which one cannot expect from a team leader.
