Cleaning hard wood flooring

Environment
By Helen DevmacIn the past few weeks we have been looking at the many types of flooring  found in our homes and what cleaning methods work best for each floor type. Today we look at hard wood floors.

Hard wood floors have been with us for a very long time, and there is no doubt that when properly cared for they add warmth and glamour to any interior. As beautiful as they are, you will be glad to know that they are also by far the easiest to care for.

A few tipsEnsure that you place good protection for your floors at every entrance. A secure non-slip mat on the inside and a foot scraper on the outside. The best foot scraper is the type made of old tyres and sold on the streets. This really does a good job scraping off all the dirt that tends to collect on the soles of our foot wear.

Protect your floors in high traffic areas such as entrances, corridors and passages by placing attractive non-slip rugs strategically .Sweep floors daily using a soft broom and vacuum at least once a week in order to remove ingrained dirt.Shake and vacuum the scatter rugs often to prevent bits of sand and wood  that may get caught up within the pile  of the rug from scratching your floors.
