FUZ leadership left the country last week for the general assembly hoping to have their association elevated from candidate membership to full membership.

The association has of late been making progress in terms of performance, which saw them attaining candidate membership in 2010, eight months after joining the body as observers.

FUZ was again rewarded in 2011 and were given 50 voting rights for the World’s Best 11 Players.

As this was not enough, the association was awarded 150 more voting rights last month to bring the tally to 200.

FUZ president Desmond Maringwa and secretary general Paul Gundani had high hopes of attaining full membership status at the just ended general assembly.

“The benchmarks have changed. They now reward associations continent by continent. What it means is that this time around they looked at European countries and I am told at the next general assembly they will be giving preference to African countries. I hope that is when we are going to be elevated,” Gundani said.

FifPro introduced four new members in its family.

Professional footballers’ associations of Croatia (HUNS), Czech Republic (CAFH), Montenegro (SPCFN) and Ukraine (All Ukrainian Professional Footballers’ Association) were all named new members.

After the addition of these four now players’ unions, the FifPro family consists of 49 members and six candidate members.
