The comedy series comes after a successful trial run of Simuka Comedy at the end of August.

The line-up, led by renowned comedian, Edgar Langeveldt, features talented comedians such as Michael K, Doc Vikela and Bulawayo-based Clive Chigubhu.

Stand-up comedy has been on a surge, with the leading exponents being Simuka Comedy performers, who recently celebrated the first anniversary of their show.

Producers of the show said the fiesta’s main objective was to bring the fast-growing genre of stand-up comedy closer to the people, while keeping in sight issues that are topical in the society.

Doc Vikela, one of the founders of Simuka Comedy, said, “It is another great opportunity to grow as performers and meet new audiences. For me, it is another chance to learn from some of the best comedians in the country.

“We are raring to go and would want people to come in their numbers and support this fast-growing industry. It is a plausible initiative from Rooftop Promotions and Theatre in the Park.”

Daves Guzha, producer of Theatre in the Park, said, “The trial run was hugely successful and that is why we have given them another slot in our busy theatre calendar, as we bridge the divide between theatre and comedy and celebrate the creativity of these genres.

“We want to offer variety to our theatre fans and also take the opportunity to introduce people to our venue with the hope that they will keep coming, even after the comedy week. We are excited to have Clive Chigubhu from Bulawayo, who is proving to be a popular comedian here in Harare and we hope the four of them will do justice.”

The performers are of diverse personalities, with Langeveldt being known for his ability to engage the audience and leave them in awe.

Michael K, Doc Vikela and Chigubhu also have their own strengths that are varied, leaving the audience satiated with choice.

The highly-rated Chigubhu will no doubt be the man to watch as he has proven to be exceptionally talented in his recent forays into the capital. He is likely to leave the audience with cracked ribs with his unorthodox comedy.
