Family friends confirmed that she was found hanging yesterday morning, although they could not say what led Nyarai (32) to take her life.
Makone and her husband, Ian, were in Kenya where they were attending the Raila Odinga-led Orange Democratic Movement’s congress with Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai when the incident occurred.
Details of the incident were still sketchy yesterday evening, with relatives saying they were awaiting the arrival of the Makones before they could comment.
Ian Makone works in the Prime Minister’s office, while his wife Theresa, doubles up as the women’s assembly boss.
MDC-T youth secretary-general, Promise Mkwananzi, who is with the Makones in Kenya, took to Facebook to send his condolences to the family. But legislator and former youth leader, Thamsanqa Mahlangu seemed to hint that Nyarai had been ill before taking her life.
MDC-T spokesperson Douglas Mwonzora confirmed the incident.
