Tinashe Munhamo, who is denying the assault charge, was remanded out of custody on a US$100 bail.
He appeared before Nkayi magistrate, Ndumo Masuku last week and was remanded to March 4 this year for continuation of trial.
Four police officers, who testified against him, told the court that on the day in question Munhamo was violent, which led to his detention at the station.
The prosecutor, Maxwell Hapanyengwi told the court that Munhamo had accused his boss, Inspector Newyear Rera (39) of having a love affair with his wife.
The court heard that on January 19 around midnight Rera left his residence for the charge office, but was allegedly waylaid by Munhamo, who assaulted him with an unknown object.
Munhamo, it is further alleged, struck him on the left foot with a stone and sat on him threatening to stab him with a knife he was holding.
