LOCAL top athletes are set to grace the Old Mutual Roger Brackley Marathon that will take place at Old Georgians Sports Club this morning.

By OUR STAFF The event, which has become a permanent fixture on the local athletics calendar, is being sponsored to the tune of US$10 600 for all the categories.

Race director Marc Pozzo said preparations were going on well and a host of tried and tested long distance runners had confirmed participation. Prizes were available for selected categories, he said.

“We are expecting a top field with the likes of Peter Gradwell Marathon winner Jonathan Chinyoka, Gilbert Mutandiro and Harare Athletic Club (HAC) runner Moses Njodzi who is preparing for the Old Mutual Two Oceans Ultra Marathon in Cape Town over the Easter weekend. Also expected in the ladies category are the Chokore sisters, Lizzie and Chiyedza who are both having great seasons,” Pozzo said.

“There will be prize money for the marathon in all categories and just the open event for the 21km.

There will be no prize money for the 5km and 10km races,” he emphasised.
