You can search the internet for different ways to tie a head scarf. The other day, a friend of mine and I searched the net for creative ways to tie a head scarf and we came across quite a number of ways so that on days we do not feel like fighting with our hair, we don a scarf and voila, we look great and divert attention from our crazy hair.

You could also search for creative ways to style your natural hair. When we searched for hair styles, we were green with envy when we saw Americans with their fabulous natural hair. Generally, they tend to have a loose curl so their hair is springy and when they do a twist out, it looks amazing. The hair has a bounce to it and looks like it is significantly easier to manage compared to my nappy hair and its tight curl pattern.

Your face and the way you put together your outfit need to compliment your hairstyle. You do not need to be dressed down or dolled up but I have found that doing up my face complements the afro perfectly and I do not look like I am just having a bad hair day and it looks intentional instead.

Last but definitely not least, you need to moisturise you hair and take care of it properly.

Here are some tips that I am currently using that work for me, after having tried a variety of remedies that I found online:Wash it once a week. Clean hair grows better, plus you need to get rid of product build up which affects the look of the hair as well as the effectiveness of the products you apply.

Find your winning formula of natural oils for your hair. I treat my hair to a combination of water, glycerine, coconut oil and castor oil. I mix a quarter of each in a bottle and mix it up then apply it every morning. My hair loves it.

Comb your hair while it’s wet to prevent breakage and make it easier to manage.

Use the liquid, oil and cream method to moisturise. Partition your hair into sections and first sprits with a liquid, water in this case. Then apply a natural oil of your choice, coconut oil or olive oil or any other you may choose, to seal the moisture. Finally apply your cream, a leave-in conditioner. Twist your hair and wrap your head in a silk scarf and you are set for bed.
