The event, the second of its kind since the Joe Rugwete-led executive took over the reins, has been penciled for April 27 at Murray McDougal School Hall in Triangle, Chiredzi in an effort to spread the sport to all corners of the country.

Speaking to Standardsport, Rugwete said there has been progress in preparations for the event.

“We have been preparing well for the event. It’s only that we have not yet finalised with potential sponsors for prize monies for teams that are going to excel. We are going to know more about sponsorship packages over the weekend after meeting the potential sponsors,” Rugwete said.

He added that the failure to lure sponsors does not mean winning teams would not be rewarded.

“We have put in place other avenues of how we are going to reward outstanding teams. If we do not manage to get sponsors, we are going to make sure that we get medals. We are going to use the money from gate takings and participation fees to reward our players.”

The events that are going to be competed in include the Male Team Kumite (seven members) at US$50 per team, the Male Team Kata (three members) at US$20 per team, the Ladies Team Kumite (five members) at US$40 per team and the Ladies Team Kata (three members) at US$20 per team.

Fighters willing to take part in individual events will have to pay US$10, with those willing to take part in two or more events paying US$15 per individual.
