A try apiece from Tawanda Chowe and Victor Mushore, a Tichafara Makwanya’s eight points from the boot ensured the victory for Old Hararians.

Harare Sports Club replied through Shane Makombe and Shingi Mpofu’s unconverted tries and Linience Tambwera’s penalty.

Last season Old Hararians lost all their three matches against Harare Sports Club.

Both teams were missing their star players due to injuries and national duty as the Zimbabwe’s sevens rugby team is currently in London for the London sevens tournament which kicked off yesterday. Harare Sports Club team manager Blessing Chiutare said the team played well but gave away a lot of penalties.

“We played well in this derby but we then gave away a lot of penalties which saw us being punished.

“We have for a long time dominated the derby but this time around it was a different game altogether.

“In this regard,we hope to regroup and identify our shortcomings as a team in reparation of our next match,” he said.
