Our winters tend to be quite cold in the early morning and the evenings but during the day they are warm. This poses a wardrobe dilemma because when you wear your outfit for the day, you need to have the following in mind and dress appropriately:

Where are you going to spend the day? Is that environment warm or will it be cold? For instance, I know a lady who does not worry too much about feeling cold while she goes to work because she turns on the heater in the car when driving to work and her office is air conditioned, so for her, it is summer all year round.

What time will you be back at home? If you will be home much later, you will need to dress with that in mind. If you are back at home during the day, you could safely get away with wearing something lighter, but if you return in the evening you may need to carry boots and a coat to change into.

Quick Tips Dress in layers: that way you can peel off any unnecessary layers and add them back on when the need arises.

Opt for a light weight trench coat: the heavier ones that are worn overseas are seldom necessary in Zim. Like I said before, the days are quite warm; however, if you are attending an outdoor, evening function, the heavier coat may be best. The heavier coat will only come in for winter evenings, while you can wear your light weight coat throughout the year making it a more worthwhile investment.

Buy yourself a pair of boots that make you feel fabulous. Be it the height of the heel, the material or the colour, you just need to feel like you are on top of the world in them.

Do not let the cold weather dull your winter wardrobe. Bright colours are equally as fashionable this winter, as they were in summer. Think jewel tones because they are rich colours. Jewels like sapphire, ruby and emerald are a good place to start.

Add a pop of colour: if you choose to go monochrome, add a pop of colour by wearing a beret, scarf or gloves in a rich colour to contrast your outfit. You could also use your handbag to add the pop of colour.

The leather jacket: the real deal is quite expensive, whether you buy it overseas, locally or regionally but I think everyone’s wardrobe needs one in the right cut, style and fit. It can be worn with jeans, dresses, skirts, practically anything in your wardrobe, depending on the effect you are going for.
