Jastin Munyika pleaded not guilty to rape charges when he appeared before magistrate, Patience Vhutuza last week.

He was remanded out of custody until September 11 on a US$50 bail.

The court heard that on August 8, the complainant (name withheld) left their home in Chikanga high-density suburb in Mutare to visit her parents in Marange.

On reaching Sakubva bus terminus, the complainant boarded a kombi in which Munyika was employed as the conductor.

The court heard that when the kombi arrived at Mutsago Business Centre, the driver disembarked leaving the complainant in the company of Munyika.

Munyika allegedly took advantage and lured the complainant to a secluded room which was behind the shops where he raped her.

After committing the offence, Munyika is reported to have hired a vehicle to follow his colleague who had already left.

The matter only surfaced when the juvenile arrived home late and was beaten by her parents.

She later spilled the beans.

A police report was made leading to the arrest of Munyika.

A medical examination confirmed that the minor was raped.

Shepherd Chawarika prosecuted.
