Musician Willom Tight could soon be getting out of hibernation.

The musician has signed a contract with Shamiso Music and Entertainment, South Africa-based multimedia group that would manage his music affairs.

According to the company’s spokesperson, Gilbert Muvavarirwa, the contract will see the musician releasing his new album at the end of this month.

“Willom Tight will be releasing his album Manifesto at the end of October,” said Muvavarirwa.

“A song titled Ndewangu [Ndoni Yamanzi] which features Speedy of Bongo Maffin, is the lead single for the album, and is scheduled for release mid-October.” He said the album carries 15-tracks among them five collaborations with international artists.

He said Tight’s music triggered a lot of interest among South Africans, who felt they needed to explore the new sound and fuse it with what is currently popular in that country.

“This is what brought about the collaboration with Harold ‘Speedy’ Matlhaku of Bongo Maffin who is signed to Kalawa Jazmee,” said Muvavarirwa.

Speedy is known for his featured collaborations with Professor and the hit songs Lento and Baphi.

Muvavarirwa, who prefers to call it the “affirmation, ascension and consolidation of Willom Tight”, said Manifesto is a game-changing and innovative musical project, which will showcase the artist’s unique vocal capabilities and delivery.

“The project will, among other things, introduce Willom Tight to the international community. This album, as its name suggests, is a published verbal declaration of his intentions, motives, or views pertaining to his career. He declares: “I am and will always be Willom Tight, the Zimbabwean Musical ambassador,” he said.

“Manifesto is not the return of the cherished Tight, but this is the affirmation, ascension and consolidation of the brand and its value proposition, while positioning for the international market.

“It is a musical statement period from an underrated music genius and game changer; remember Ndinoda Wangu in 2000 under Shamiso Entertainment. Willom Tight was one of the pioneers that created the new order, now called ‘urban grooves’ so this is not the return.”

Born Willboard Muponda, Tight made waves on the local scene with the album Ndinoda Wangu in 2000 before releasing another scorcher Hodzeko in 2003, both under Shamiso Music and Entertainment.

He was to part ways with the company and went on to record Kuza Ngoma in 2008 and Chinyerere in 2011.

Despite roping in superstar Oliver Mtukudzi on Kuza Ngoma, the album failed to get to the level of his previous two albums.

“There is a certain artistic input that I get from people like Muvarirwa that was missing in my last two projects,” said Willom Tight.

“He can literally draw music, and that is the recipe that I lacked when I tried to go it alone.”

Some of the tracks from the upcoming album include Ntoni Yamanzi, Imi Munosara Naani, Africa, Mvura Naya Naya and Summer Love among others.

He also worked with South Africa-based Zimbabwean musician Max Vidima on the album.
