BY OUR STAFF Zimbabwe Young Warriors surged through to the next round of the Cosafa Under-20 Championship currently underway in Lesotho after they convincingly beat Botswana 3-0 at Mafeteng Stadium yesterday.

The Young Warriors got their goals through Carlos Rusere in the 32nd minute, Liberty Chakaroma 56th minute and a 66th minute strike by Walter Musona, to seal the win and take his tally to two goals in as many matches.

After continued raids from the onset, the Young Warriors were rewarded in the 32nd minute after Rusere turned his marker inside the penalty box before firing a left footer into the net.

Zimbabwe continued to pile on the pressure and were almost rewarded with a second goal but Mgcini Sibanda’s blistering shot was pushed out for a corner. The resultant corner kick could not yield any meaningful results.

Just after 11 minutes of play into the second half, Zimbabwe extended their lead to two goals up. Chakoroma rose above a static Botswana defence to plant a Musona’s well-taken corner kick from the right side.

Musona, who was always troubling the Botswana defence, was rewarded for his sterling performance in the 66th minute when he scored Zimbabwe’s third, through a well-taken free kick.

He was however immediately pulled out for Bret Amidu. Zimbabwe topped the group with six points with Botswana who were leading the pack before the match dosplaced to second position.
