Bello mum on Platinum switch

DEFENDER Gift Bello has gagged himself following his “rebellious” move to  FC Platinum from Harare giants Dynamos.

BY ALBERT MARUFU

Bello, who was allegedly labelled a “rebel” by Dynamos chairman Keni Mubaiwa, told Standardsport that the time was not conducive for him to talk about his surprise switch to FC Platinum.

“I cannot talk about my transfer at the moment. The timing of the interview is not right. Maybe we can talk next month. Sorry mukoma [brother],” he said before switching off his phone.

The defender drew the ire of Dynamos management and supporters after he chose to ditch the club despite having been registered for the 2014 CAF Champions League.

Dynamos supporters used the social media to express their displeasure at the defender’s snubbing of their team.

Interestingly, Bello’s exit came a month after Dynamos had staged the biggest pre-season coup by snatching Masimba Mambare from their sworn rivals Highlanders.

While Bello has decided to remain silent, Mambare publicly spoke of his decision to dump Bosso saying he did not regret his decision.

Bello, who had a wonderful season that saw him being selected as one of the 2013 Soccer Stars of the Year finalists, was no longer contracted to Dynamos, his contract having expired on December 31.

The Footballers Union of Zimbabwe (FUZ) rebuked Dynamos for calling the player a “rebel” for moving to a club of his choice.

Bello, a highly talented but underrated defender, traced the footsteps of his former coach at Kiglon and Dynamos, Lloyd Mutasa to FC Platinum.

Bello, together with former Highlanders striker Njabulo Ncube, Shabanie Mine’s Tarisai Rukanda and Steven Ndlovu from Buffaloes, are some of FC Platinum’s new signings that will be unveiled at the CG Msipa Charity Soccer Tournament against Shabanie next Sunday.

The Rugare-born defender started his career at the now defunct Kestrenel Athletic in 2003 and later Kiglon Bird in 2005.

In 2011, Bello together with Thomas Magorimbo, Dominic Benati, Devon Chafa and Denver Mukamba were poached to Dynamos by Mutasa.
