Two first-half goals by Bantu Rovers ensured they collected their second set of three points after beating Chapungu United in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match at Luveve yesterday.

Obadiah Tarumbwa scored 35 seconds into the game from a Fortune “Fokoza” Ncube cross, who had been sent through by right-back Lawson Nkomo.

Ncube’s long throw in the 14th minute from the left was met with a header by Proud Zireni to give “Tshintsha Guluva” their second goal as he beat Chapungu goalkeeper Roy Mazingi.

The Methembe Ndlovu-coached PSL returnees rose on the ladder from position 12 to five after yesterday’s matches while Chapungu dropped one rung to position eight after having gone for their first three matches without defeat, only to lose yesterday.

Bantu Rovers assistant coach Mandla “Lulu” Mpofu was ecstatic for the three points but said it was going to be tough going ahead.

“We are happy as the Bantu Rovers family although it was a bit sloppy and scrappy. It’s going to be tougher as we hit the road on Wednesday against Shabanie Mine,” Mpofu said.

Chapungu head coach John Nyikadzino said complacency had crept in on his boys after going three matches without defeat.

“Complacency crept in. The boys thought it was going to be a stroll in the park and once you go to sleep, you concede silly goals. They realised we had lost in the second half but Bantu held on.

“Congratulations to Bantu Rovers,” Nyikadzino said.
