SENSATIONAL rhumba songbird and dancer, Lady Storm, recently swept to instant fame after featuring on Jah Prayzah’s video titled Eriza where she is captured as a school girl in enthralling dance routines that leave school boys on tenterhooks and attracts the anti-riot squad in a marketplace.

Born Lynn Magodo, Lady Storm now goes by the nick name Eriza following the release of the video, which has since gone viral and has seen promoters dashing for her signature, “marrying” her with top artistes as a curtain raiser at their shows.

The rage of the moment, Lady Storm, has since outpaced Beverly “Bev” Sibanda and Norleen “Zoey” Sifelani — who have dominated the dance scene over the past few years — in popularity ratings. It was against this backdrop that Bev and Zoey put their rivalry aside and joined forces to throw pot shots at the new challenger.

During almost all her performances, Lady Storm leaves predominantly male patrons clamouring for more of her energetic dance magic.

This weekend’s line up of musical shows all but confirmed that Lady Storm is stopping at nothing as she rides high on her newly-found fame with doors of fortune opening up for her.

After mesmerising revellers on January 22 at the Red Rose Entertainment-organised Ignition Concert headlined by dancehall sensation Winky D and Jah Prayzah at 7 Arts Theatre in Harare, she performed alongside sungura ace Alick Macheso and his Orchestra Mberikwazvo at Werras Sports Bar in Glen View 1 last Friday.

Today, the 22-year-old dancer will have a stage romance with another sungura musician, Peter “Young Igwe” Moyo at Extra Mile Leisure Spot backed by her Swagga Band.

Lady Storm told The Standard Style that she was aware of the hazards associated with her profession, especially at a time she has become the most sought-after female performer, but said she was not going to lose focus.

“This might be my breakthrough and what is important is for me to hold myself with great esteem as a professional artiste and I would rather stay at home than give away my body for a show,” she said.

A local promoter described Lady Storm as a rising star — a storm the weather forecaster failed to predict — who must benefit from her talent and instant fame.

“At this point, all that Lady Storm needs to do is to remain focused and no doubt she will enjoy the fruits of her talent,” she said.

Despite the friction she has caused in the dancing fraternity that has seen her “clashing” with Bev and Zoey, she maintained she wanted to remain professional and focused while staying away from controversy.
