Ruva Renyika told The Standard Style that the new single will be launched at the end of the month.

“Sweet Lies… the name says it all. It’s about how people lie to get someone, they promise the world and start acting up after getting what they wanted,” she said.

The Afro-fusion diva said the song was relevant because everyone has been lied to at some point in time. She said she was inspired to do the song by real life situations.

“Everyone has been lied to at some point in a relationship and it is important to note that most of these relationships are built on lies,” she said.

“Sweet lies can be addictive, like I sing ‘they drip with honey’ even if you realise you are being lied to, you just can’t resist because it sounds so good in your ears.”

Ruva Rashe said the new single was her second project after she released Tsvodi, which did not do well on the market. Tsvodi is part of her forthcoming album, which will be released this year.

On the forthcoming project, a nine-track album, the 31-year-old musician sings on diverse issues, including the socio-economic situation in the country.

“I sing about social stuff too, especially on the tracks Hupenyu and Zimbabwe, which are on the forthcoming album,” she said.

Ruva Renyika said she had been into music for a long time, having been part of a local jazz outfit where she provided backing vocals. However, she said she had to take a sabbatical from the music scene since she was staying with her parents, who would not allow her to attend late shows.

“I got into music several years back doing back vocals for a local jazz group. We used to do live shows but it was not for long because I was staying with my parents who did not want me to get home late. I had to quit until last year when I just walked into the studio and recorded a song and never turned back,” The songstress is a mother of two and employed as an administration clerk at a local institution.
