The International Coaching and Mentoring Foundation (ICMF) has awarded ZIFM Stereo presenter, Mona Lisa Dube The Youth Coach of the year Award. Mona Lisa hosts a current affairs youth programme The Y zone on ZiFM Stereo which addresses issues affecting young people as well as celebrating their achievements.
The president and founder of the organisation Blessing Duri says as an organisation that is youth-oriented, they recognise Mona Lisa’s immense contribution in building the youth through her show. The ICMF is a trust dedicated to support, develop and mentor young people in order for them to have a sense of responsibility and purpose.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Mona Lisa said she is really humbled by the award as she did not expect it at all. “I love my work, and I enjoy working with young people like myself, so for me to be recognised for that means the absolute world to me.
“The Y zone is a youth show that gives youth a platform to talk about issues that affect or that they are concerned about in their own perspective. I have covered so many issues thus far, such as sexual harassment in tertiary institutions, how students feel about their current curriculum, youth living with disabilities, young people excelling in entrepreneurship, student politics, etc. Young people are often spoken for but on the Y zone they speak for themselves. This award has encouraged me to do even much more next year.”
AB Communications managing director for regional stations Tendai Madondo said the award meant a lot to the radio station. “Mona Lisa is one of the most hardworking personalities here and this award is well-deserved.”
Mona Lisa has been in the media industry for four years now. She started her career in her teens at ZBC TV for a fashion programme called Stlye Base which aired on Channel 2. She was production assistant for the Breakfast Show on ZiFM Stereo with TK and MisRed. She is currently the producer for Patience Musa’s Exhale Block show.
