AB Communications, which owns ZiFM Stereo, has unveiled new on air personalities as it moves to consolidate its position as Zimbabwe’s hottest radio station.

The multi-media company has also announced senior editorial appointments.
Among the new kids on the block is Rebecca Muchenje, aka Miss Becky, who was one of the directors of ceremonies at the recently-held Miss Tourism Zimbabwe reality show and the final beauty pageant.
Another one is Christine Midzi — a marketing communications practitioner — who specialised in customer relationship management in both the insurance and hospitality industries. Her broadcasting career began at the University of Cape Town campus radio where she was a news anchor on the drive time show.
Nonkululeko “Amard” Dube has been added as a presenter at ZiFM Stereo.
Another new find is Chidochemoyo Nhemara. The station has roped in veteran broadcaster, Tichafa Augustine Matambanadzo, known as Tich the Midas Touch.
AB Communications has also appointed senior journalist, Constantine Chimakure, as its group deputy head of news and current affairs. Chimakure is a former editor of the Zimbabwe Independent, NewsDay and the now defunct Zimbabwe Mail. Also appointed as head of special projects desk was Moses Matenga, a former Newsday reporter.

Group chief operations officer Gilbert Muponda says new recruitments are part of the company’s commitment to continuously improve and enhance its entertainment and news products.
He said the company’s regional stations Hevoi FM and 98.4 Midlands are operational and will be commercially launched.
“As the market may be aware, ZiFM Stereo’s has been consistently rated as the most credible source of news and information in Zimbabwe,” Muponda said.
“We want to cascade this professionalism to the metro radio stations. So the arrival of Constantine and Moses will bolster the news and current affairs department at a time we are on the verge of launching new products, among them a news website which will go live very soon.”
Meanwhile, ZiFM Stereo’s current affairs host Farai Mwakutuya has refuted reports suggesting he has left the top radio station.
“Contrary to media reports that started last year, I have not left ZiFM Stereo,” Mwakutuya said.
“Despite taking up other roles elsewhere, I remain a current affairs presenter hosting The Platform and Ask the MP. I expect to roll out more shows in the course of this year.”
