The young crooner told The Standard Style the country’s failing economy was impeding the growth of the music industry in Zimbabwe, saying the most affected were the upcoming musicians.

“I have been facing a lot of challenges financially which has made me take so long to release some of the songs which I feel would have been hit songs had they been released on time,” he said.

Winton started his music career in 2008 and has since released two albums. His first album in 2010 titled Pakutanga featured songs like Maidei, Ruvarangu and Zimbabwe. “Most of my songs are love songs as it is my favourite subject, but in my song titled Zimbabwe. I portrayed how Zimbabweans stood up in the 2008 financial crisis,” he said.

In 2012 Winton released his second album, Peaceful Zimbabwe, which featured the title track Peaceful Zimbabwe, Isuvechidiki, Independence and Fight to The End, which was in appreciation of “our nation”.

But, according to Winton, the album did not receive enough airplay as he expected and he feels this is because upcoming artistes have a long way to go in order to charm audiences to follow their music.

“My second album did not do as well as I was expecting and this is because people are more focused on publishing popular artistes whose music sells fast,” he said.

“I think a lot should be done in order to support local artistes to showcase their talents and musicians must not be cry-babies, but there is need to come up with solutions to curb piracy which is a serious threat to the content of local artistes which deserves better value,” said Winton.

The artiste says he is working hard and looking forward to release better music in his upcoming album which will be released next year. He said people should expect nothing, but fireworks from the album.
