The Swedera singer said the collaboration with Oliver Mtukudzi’s Pakare Paye Arts Centre prodigy, Mataruse, came as a result of effortless musical rapport.

“I recorded this track with Munya a few months ago when I’d travelled to Canada. The collaboration came about after my brother Paz Gwitimah introduced me to DJ Slice, who suggested the collaboration with Mr Mataruse,” she said, describing the song as her “easiest collaboration to date”.

“I had followed Munya’s work and was so excited to be working with him. This was by far the easiest collaboration I have done to date.”

As were events preceding its recording, Watora Moyo is about that fantasy love-at-first-sight feeling encapsulated with an Afro-pop beat, which is poised to be a hit at love-related events like weddings and engagements.

“The song pretty much wrote itself. We didn’t really have much of an idea what kind of a song we were going to come up with, but I remember walking into Munya’s studio and him saying that he had a sample of a beat he had been working on the night before [literally a few bars]. I listened to it once and said, yes,” said Shanky.

The self-styled Zimbabwean sweetheart was scheduled to land in Harare on Friday to shoot a video for the single.

Shanky hopes this video will surpass her last one titled Suduruka, which featured on various TV channels, including Trace TV, becoming a smash hit among many owing to silky visuals showing Zimbabwe’s beautiful wildlife.

“I am so excited to be collaborating with the super-talented award-winning choreographer John Cole and director Chris Shoca for the music video of Watora Moyo,” Shanky disclosed.

“Hopefully, the video will be out for everyone to enjoy very soon. I am also hoping to interact with some of my fans while I’m home.”

The award-winning songbird, who has performed on big stages in the UK alongside artistes such as Davido, Tiwa Sage and Diamond Platinumz, has plans to bring her act to local stages.
