The reigning Soccer Star of Year continued with his fine form which has yielded six goals in the last three league games, a feat that has propelled him to the apex of the top goalscorer charts with 13 goals.

The former Hwange forward had to bide his time yesterday until the 51st-minute to make the difference when he picked a loose ball in the box from Rahman Kutsanzira’s corner kick before slotting a low shot past goalie Prince Tafiremutsa.

He then completed his brace 15 minutes before full time, after capitalising on poor communication between Tafiremutsa and centre-back Carlos Mavhurume.

After the victory, the defending champions moved to 62 points, five above Ngezi Platinum, who succumbed to a narrow 1-0 defeat at the hands of Yadah Stars.

Despite having a good day in the office, FC Platinum gaffer Norman Mapeza said there was still a lot of work for his charges.

“We are running our own race and I do not want to talk much about our rivals. We are working to see that we achieve our ultimate goal. I am happy for Rodwell; he has been doing well for us, those are the fruits of hard work and I hope the Lord will continue rewarding him for that.” said Mapeza.

The students, on the other hand, had a number of brilliant moments underlined by resoluteness in defence as they contained the champions in the first half.

Kumbirai Mutiwekuziva, the Herentials coach, heaped praises on his players despite the loss.

“We were playing against the champions and we did so well. The team was promoted this year and this is their first time playing at Mandava stadium. I am happy for the boys and that alone gives us the strength to move on and look ahead of us because the future is bright,” he said.
