A brainchild of Mumhanzi Media, the event comes at a time many promoters have shunned Zim hip-hop acts owing to low crowd pull which has affected the growth of the urban music sector.

The event’s director Levi Mumhanzi told The Standard Style that Mumhanzi Media, which has business interests within hip-hop circles, had taken the initiative to facilitate the growth of the genre locally.

“This is a response by us after seeing that we don’t have a platform built to support hip-hop development in Zimbabwe. So instead of complaining we have created a platform where established and upcoming acts perform at a concert set-up,” said Mumhanzi.

Depending on the success of the first concert, Mumhanzi Media, a public relations, artiste management and music distribution company, plans to make it a monthly event.

“We have the contacts and the relationships to bring everyone together and build something worthwhile, so this might turn out to be a monthly event if successful,” said Mumhanzi.

He added that there had been great interest from stakeholders.

“The response has been really positive with other guys saying ‘let’s do it, this is ours’ while others are willing to pay me to perform and all these are pointers that the market is really hungry for something to celebrate the industry,” he said.

“We are building a platform to take to corporates, so this show is a start done under a partnership together with artistes.”
