The annual Kalawa Homecoming Party hosted by South Africa-based Oscar Bonginkosi Mdlongwa, aka Oskido, in Bulawayo is on, but this year’s event will divert from the traditional gig, which featured more than 20 artistes from South Africa and Zimbabwe, The Standard Style can reveal.

The gig is regarded as one of the greatest on the Bulawayo showbiz. Organisers have opted to bring in two artistes from South Africa — Busiswa and DJ Zinhle — who are set to perform at Cosmopolitan Night Club on December 27, the traditional date for the Kalawa Homecoming Party.

On Unity Day, December 22, Cosmopolitan Night Club will host DJ Maphorisa, warming up for Christmas and the DJ Zihle and Busiswa gig.

Cosmopolitan Night Club marketing consultant Ntando Ndlovu confirmed to The Standard Style that the two South Africans would grace Cosmo at a show arranged by X MO Squad, the organisers of the Kalawa Homecoming Party.

“I can confirm that we will be hosting Busiswa and DJ Zinhle on December 29 and the show will be courtesy of X MO Squad though I can’t say this will be this year’s edition of the Kalawa Homecoming Party since it’s not in my capacity,” he said.

“Before the December 27 show, we will host DJ Maphorisa at the same venue and we expect nothing but good vibes this festive season. Ticket sales will be advised soon and we urge party lovers to grab their tickets early to avoid inconveniences.”

Vusumuzi Siqalaba of X Mo Squad would neither confirm nor deny whether or not the Kalawa Homecoming Party had been put on hold this year.

“We are still working on everything, and there are a lot of changes going on, so I can only give you much detail after we finalise everything,” he said.

Last month X Mo Squad revealed to the media that this year’s event would be headlined by controversial rapper Emtee and high-riding vocalist Mlindo, among other artistes.

The annual fête has in the past brought artistes such as Cassper Nyovest, AKA, DJ Fresh, Pepsi, Busi, Durban Nyts, and Tira, among others.
