The youthful outfit was part of supporting acts at Thomas Mapfumo’s Peace Tour gig held in the ancient city.

The band’s captivating, high-energy performances take audiences back in time as Panhimbe Crew blends music, creativity and tradition.

The Afro-pop singers’ crew is made up of 10 members comprising of nine males and one female.

“We decided to name the crew Panhimbe Crew because it is an inclusive name for every youth who feels they have the talent. The name explains itself, nhimbe is for everyone and no one is sidelined,” said band manager Bothwell Chabarika.

“We have our own songs we perform and we also perform cover versions as we are determined to entertain the people and nurture ourselves.”

Panhimbe Crew are yet to record their music.

“We do not have a song we have recorded yet, but we are planning on recording and this will make it easy for us to be recognised,” he said.

“For the time being, resources are limiting us. Panhimbe Crew has done a lot of shows and entered competitions where we have fared well.

“We have been invited for performances at neighborhood events, local festivals, senior living facilities, residential facilities, summer camps and school art shows.”

Panhimbe Crew director Tafara Tande said they had lined up a number of projects meant to empower women, young girls and the street kids.
