Bulawayo musician and promoter Mr Lit, real name Providence Takaedza, has been sucked in to a sexual abuse and harassment storm involving a 23-year-old Malawian student.

Olivia Ndoka is accusing Takaedza of touching her private parts at a party in Bulawayo’s Tshabalala suburb.

Ndoka, who is a student at a local university, took to social media platform Twitter where she raised her concerns.

The Malawian reiterated to Standard Style in an interview that Mr Lit had allegedly indecently touched her.

“On February 9, I and my friend named Tracy went to a family friend’s house for a party. Since our university is at the outskirts, if we want to go to town and party, it’s a matter of us having to sleep out and she [Tracy] was certain we would be safe at the Tshabalala house,” Ndoka posted on Twitter.

“Our family friend then decided to have a braai and he invited his friend identified as Mr Lit. We had barbeque and alcoholic drinks before I decided that I could not take it anymore at around 9pm and I slept.

“Mr Lit came into the room where I was sleeping and indecently touched me. I sensed that there was something wrong and I woke up. I confronted him, but he just walked out of the room. I was fully dressed in leggings, a shirt with my sneakers on, but he managed to put his fingers into my pants.”

Ndoka said after Mr Lit had been confronted by people at the party over the issue, he denied ever indecently touching her.

“Some people at the party were discouraging me from making a police report, saying Mr Lit was very influential and the matter won’t see the light of justice. Firstly, I posted it on Twitter and deleted, but I later gathered courage and reposted, that’s how I got consoling and supporting messages,” she said.

Ndoka has since made a report at Bulawayo Central Police Station.

“I filed a police report and I am still waiting for a response from the police who said they would start investigations soon,” she said.

Contacted for comment, Bulawayo police spokesperson Chief Inspector Precious Simango confirmed that Ndoka had made a police report.

“Yes, she made a report to the police, but I won’t give you further details as of now,” she said.

Mr Lit said his legal team had advised him not to make any official comment.
