CAPTAIN Wellington Taderera and Vincent Mhandu found the target in either half as army side Black Rhinos shrugged off a slow start to the season by winning their second match on the trot against Triangle at the National Sports Stadium yesterday.

It was Mhandu who opened the scoring on the stroke of half-time capitalising on a miscued clearance by Donald Dzinyai, but his strike was cancelled out by Triangle captain Ralph Kawondera halfway through the second half.

Moments later, Taderera grabbed the winner, latching on to Wonder Kapinda’s through ball to slot home past Chang Marion.

In spite of all their dominance during the match, Triangle succumbed to a second consecutive loss following last week’s home defeat to Chapungu.

“It’s one match in which we have ourselves to blame for defending poorly. How do you explain the mix-up with seconds to go to hal-time? It gave our opponents the much-needed belief and self-confidence,” Taurayi Mangwiro said after the match.

“We tried hard to salvage something, we got the much- needed equaliser and then we go to sleep and from combination play we let the Rhinos player to go and score. The defending was our biggest let-down today.”

Mangwiro’s men dominated the first half, but failed to break the deadlock and against the run of play Mhandu gave the hosts the lead a minute into the first half stoppage time.

Triangle continued to dominate the exchanges and their reward came when Kawondera controlled the ball very well in the six-yard box to an oracle- inspired double substitution by Rhinos coach Herbert Maruwa, bringing in Leeroy Murape and Francesco Zekumbawire for Moses Demera and Vincent Mhandu immediately swung the pendulum in Black Rhinos’ favour.

And with 16 minutes to go to full-time, Taderera scored the winning goal.

“I am happy with the win. I told the guys let’s go out there and make sure we fight for the game and they did exactly that and we managed to come up with the three points,” Maruwa said.
