In 2017, soon after releasing the smash hit single, Nobody, which topped local as well as foreign charts and was followed by visuals which garnered 100 000 views on YouTube in less than a week, when it was a tall order then, model-cum-musician Vanessa “Queen Vee” Sibanda went silent.

The Mari Mari singer has kept music lovers, particularly those that jam to her vibe, guessing what she has been cooking during this time.

Finally, the beauty queen has spoken explaining her unprecedented hiatus and imminent comeback in an interview with Standard Style last Wednesday.

“I think it is important for one to take a break once in a while to analyse their paths, rediscover their selves and re-gather their focus,” said Queen Vee.

She said she had been so busy all this while resulting in her giving her family little attention.

“I decided to take a break and shift my focus towards my family and other family business interests.

“They had not been getting enough of my attention at that time, so that [taking a break] is the best decision I ever made because my family keeps me grounded and recharged.”

Her announcement also comes on the back of a double nomination for the African Social Entertainment Awards (ASEA) in the Best Female and Most Fashionable Female categories.

The 2008 Miss Zimbabwe crown holder says this is “an amazing feeling, humbling and encouraging to me as an artiste”.

“It does not only mean that my music and personality has an impact on the industry, but it also means Zimbabwe’s flag is rising,” she said.

Meanwhile, Queen Vee, whose work is synonymous with high-quality productions, has promised greater projects this year in the quest to uplift the spirits of those that follow her work.

“All I can say is that there will be new music and big projects from the Queen Vee camp this year,” she said.

“I want my music to be a source of inspiration to many, to motivate, relieve stress and make them love life a little more.”
