Government says it is committed to assisting the Zimbabwe College of Music for their month-long tour of Canada, amid revelations that President Emmerson Mnangagwa forked out ZWL$50 000 to support the cause.
Part of the tour will see the Zimbabwe College of Music take part in the African Descent Festival to be held from July 16 to August 12 in Vancouver, Canada.
One of the organisers of the tour, Simbarashe Tinago, welcomed the support from the government and other organisations, saying it would go a long way in assisting the Zimbabwean team.
“At first, we were hesitant to approach the government, but we were surprised by the welcoming reception we got. The meeting was brief, we presented the budget and after answering a few questions, the president signed it,” Tinago said.
The 25-member team is eager to go to Canada and have started applying for visas, said Tinago.
“We are supposed to have 23 performers, one ministry representative and a representative from the media.”
Ammara Brown performed during one of a series of fundraising events the college organised during the last two months.

Some students from the college have been doing well on the mainstream music industry, performing with various artistes like Samkoko and Hope Masike, while others shared the stage with Nasty C as backup singers at King 98’s Francesca album launch in May.
