Local model Pauline Marere will this year represent Zimbabwe at the Miss Heritage Global in Accra, Ghana.

Miss Heritage Global, which is an international reality television pageant aimed at promoting and preserving heritage and culture, will take place between August 10 and 22. Fifty-eight countries will be represented at this year’s edition. Marere, who is the outgoing Miss Africa Continent, is confident about bringing the crown to Zimbabwe.

“Miss Heritage Global will take this place this month with 58 models from all over the globe contesting,” Marere told Standard Style.

“I am humbled to be representing my beloved country and I am well prepared for the competition because I know it is going to be a tough one. I am looking forward to bringing the crown home.

“My main goal is to market our beautiful heritage sites from the Great Zimbabwe, Victoria Falls, to Chinhoyi Caves and many others. Our rich culture must be known out there; hence, I have dedicated myself to be an ambassador for this cause.”

Marere started walking the ramp 10 years ago, but she somehow took a break before resuming in 2017.

“I started modelling in 2009 when I had my first pageant where I was crowned First Princess. However, I took a break only to resume two years ago when I participated in a pageant where I became first princess. I am in the industry for good,” she said.

“Modelling helps me to compete with other girls and ladies in a positive way rather than the negative way that society offers. Modelling has also helped me to reach out to the girl child and those who are in need, especially prison inmates and young girls from villages who do not have parents. “Through modelling, I have the platform to network with girls from other countries who are also in the industry and come up with business ideas and plans to help the world.”

The 24-year-old model has other titles to her name, including Miss Heritage Global Zimbabwe, Miss Nations of the World Zimbabwe, and Miss Superglobe Zimbabwe fist princess.

Marere is also the brand ambassador of VW Soweto and Cheetah Mega Bite and she was once crowned World Miss University Zimbabwe, Miss Tourism Mashonaland West, Queen of the Cape, Miss Universities South Africa, as well as Miss Cape Peninsula University.

“Fashion shows have played a huge role in my career as I participated in a couple of them, including the biggest Cape Town Experience sashion show and Harare Mudhuri fashion show,” she said.

“In the next five years I see myself as a successful model and role model to all the girls born and raised in the village like myself.”

“My goal is to have my own modelling school and teach other girls about modelling and groom them to be successful and good ambassadors.”

Besides showing off her beauty to the world, Marere is also an electrical engineer. She was born and raised in Mhondoro, Mashonaland West province, and she is the only girl in a family of four.

She describes herself as self-driven, hard-working, caring and passionate about helping others, especially prison inmates because she believes that if they are equipped with education while they are still serving their time, by the time they come out they can have a better starting point instead of going back to their wrongdoings.

“My hobbies are netball, writing books, swimming and tennis,” Marere said.
