South Africa-based urban groover, Nox Guni, will for the first time use his own live band on Zimbabwean soil when he launches his ninth album in Harare next month.

Born Enock Guni, Nox, one of the country’s urban grooves music pioneers, will launch his album on September 6 at the newly-established Werras Gardens at a show that will also mark the official opening of the joint, owned by popular music promoter Samuel “Boss Weras” Saungweme of Werras Entertainment.

The show will also be part of Nox’s birthday celebrations. The Ndinonyara singer turns 36 on that day.

Speaking from his South Africa base the musician said he was happy to be coming back to Zimbabwe to launch his new album. He said the new album would mark a new journey.

“The new album marks the rebirth of Nox. The launch will unveil a new Nox and start of a new journey,” he said.

“It’s going to be a new exciting journey from the days of Maria to Uchandifunga,” he said. Nox said the forthcoming album features a number of artistes including Freeman, his younger brother Tyfa Guni, South Africans Thumelo and Charisma.

He said he was excited that for the first time he was performing with a live band – Ice n Roses.

“I will be unveiling my live band Ice n Roses and it’s going to be exciting,” he said.

“I am also happy that a number of friends will be there to support me, including Trevor Dongo, Baba Harare and Diana Samkange, among other many radio DJs.”

A Midlands State University alumnus, Nox has managed to hold his ground in the cut-throat music industry from the formative years of the urban grooves genre.

Despite his ups and downs, on and off the stage, punctuated by a controversial love life, Nox has managed to release eight albums, including Wandipengesa (2004), Rythm and Blues (2006), Chapter Three (2008), Music, Love and Me 2009, Zim’s Finest: Tisu Tine Yese (2010) and Eighth Wonder (2013) and several singles such as Kupenga Kuti Pe, Iwe Maria and Uchandifunga.

His forthcoming album was produced by Tyfah for Ice ‘n’ Roses, the musician’s record label based in South Africa. Nox rose to fame with yesteryear hits such as Ndinonyara, Maria, Unondifonyora and Handigone Newe.

Last year, he teamed up with Tyfah and Gary Tight for a single titled No Reverse.

The musician was born in Zaka, Masvingo province on September 6, 1983.
