Sungura musician Brian Samaita says his music is not acknowledged in Zimbabwe, but it is touching souls so deeply in foreign lands where he performs mostly than on home soil.

The Mutare-based sungura musician, who is now born again, was recently in Malawi where he performed at a private function at the invitation of a government official in Blantyre.

In early December Samaita was also invited to perform at a private function in Mozambique where his music is topping the charts.

The Murondatsimba frontman recently released an album titled Ndafunga Dembo, a dedication to the late Barura Music ace Leonard Dembo. One of the songs from the album Hombarume was voted among the top 10 songs of the year on National FM Top 50.

The musician, who is contemplating taking a step in faith and quit music in order to serve the Lord, said his invitations were a result of his networking with powerful people who attend Enlightened Christian Gathering church founded by South Africa-based Malawian prophet, Shepherd Bushiri.

“I mostly perform at special occasions where I am invited by prominent people whom I meet at Major 1 [Bushiri] church services in Pretoria,” he said.

“I have performed at various private functions hosted by top politicians and businesspeople in South Africa, Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe. For some I have performed for them during their campaigns and they have won the elections.

“Here in Zimbabwe I have performed at a function hosted by a politician [name withheld] who is now an MP and he can testify that my music is uplifting for spiritual connection.”

According to Kartel Promotions who manages Samaita, they no longer have gate men who manage the entry points because most of their shows are paid for in advance.

Meanwhile, Samaita said he was happy that his song Hombarume, which was voted Number 9 on the National FM Top 50 proved he was the best sungura musician at the moment.

“All the other songs among the best 10 are not sungura, so Hombarume has proved to be dominating sungura in 2019,” he said.
