Kwekwe model Praise Chiruka (pictured) says she believes in cultural values and would like to be a role model to other aspiring beauty queens through following her societal values.

Born in Botswana, Chiruka, an agronomist by profession, said she grew up in a Christian family where cultural values were respected and she did not know that she would become a model.

The super model grew up in Torwood in Kwekwe and attended Batanai High School, where she started her modelling career.

“Modelling is my talent and I started doing it at primary school where I would win accolades and now I am doing it professionally” Chiruka said.

“Besides modelling, I have studied agriculture and I am working at a local seed company. I chose agriculture after realising that as an agronomy-based economy, there are lots of opportunities in the sector, which I could explore,” she said.

Chiruka highlighted that she would like to inspire her colleagues to consider doing programmes, which will benefit them in the future.

About her modelling career, she said she would like to put more effort this year and qualify in national pageants.

“I am very optimistic about this year since it has started with a lot of activities. My plan is to do more in terms of maintaining my body and skin so that I remain in shape. I have very high hopes about this and I know I will make it this year,” she said.

Last year Chiruka participated in the Miss Kwekwe Sports and Culture Festival where she was crowned second princess.

She said her worst experience in the modelling industry was when she failed to take part in some pageants due to the unavailability of sponsorship.

“My wish is to have more sponsors coming on board to assist young models who are talented but don’t have the resources to participate with others. Zimbabwe is endowed with talented young ladies who are less privileged. My wish is to have such people assisted so that they may achieve their dreams,” she said.

“My dream is to contest at the international level and to be a super commercial model.
